Our History
A journey through the years
Early 1900's
The roots of the present company can be tracked by over 100 years to a small general grocery store and bakery in Laghey Village, which was started by the now directors great-grandfather, Adam McClay.
1950's
Robert Kee Grocery Store continued to grow and serve the local people of Laghey and Donegal area. We supplied Tractors and BSA Motorbikes. In 1958 we became an agent for Honda. The Honda 50 motorbike became a firm favourite with farmers around Donegal.
1970s
In the late 1970's Robert Kee expanded their Honda product range by introducing the Honda Lawnmower becoming the first retailer in Ireland to supply the self-propelled Lawnmowers. The 70's also saw the introduction of the STIHL and Husqvarna Brands to Robert Kee.
1980s
The 1980's brought the first ATV from Honda this was to become a new mode of transport
for Farmer's. The quad provided farmers with power and performance to get jobs done.
The business has continued to grow through the generations, up to the formation of the
present company, which became a private limited company in 1988
1990's
Robert Kee Grocery Store continued to grow and became a Spar Supermarket bringing
more choice and value to the people in the area. The Esso Filling Station was opened in
Laghey in 1994 which was the first canopy filling station in South West Donegal.
2000's
For more than a century now, we have expanded and developed our business and opened our first premises in Letterkenny Co. Donegal. We have built an
exceptional rapport with our customers and through our them we have progressed and developed our offerings resulting in the employment of over 50 people locally.
